The KCET 2026 option entry window is currently open (June 20 to June 30, 2026). The KEA seat allotment algorithm works strictly from top to bottom based on your rank and categories, meaning it will lock in the very first option on your list where your rank clears the cutoff.
Here is a breakdown of the steps to follow and the most critical pitfalls to avoid.
KCET 2026 Option Entry Steps
Preparation & Research
Download the official KEA Seat Matrix to inspect the category-specific breakdowns. Pay very close attention to how seats are allocated across the Rural and Kalyana Karnataka (HK) quotas, as these specific reservations can drastically shift the cutoffs in your favor.
Review the last three years of cutoff statements to gauge realistic targets.

The 3-Tier Option Entry Strategy
There is no maximum limit to the number of combinations you can enter. Build a robust list of 80 to 100+ options categorized into three tiers:
Tier 1 (Dream Choices): Your absolute ideal colleges and branches where previous cutoffs are higher than your rank.
Tier 2 (Realistic Choices): Colleges where your rank sits comfortably within the previous closing trends.
Tier 3 (Safety Backups): Safe bets where closing ranks are much lower than your rank to guarantee you don't go empty-handed.
Mock Allotment & Modification
KEA runs a Mock Allotment simulation on July 6, 2026. This shows what seat you would get if your current list was finalized.
If you receive a "No Seat Allotted" result or a seat you don't prefer, use the modification window (July 6 to July 9) to aggressively add, delete, or reorder your preferences before the real Round 1 begins.
Critical Mistakes to Avoid
The "Round 1 Only" Trap: The wishlist you save in Round 1 is permanent for all subsequent rounds. You are not allowed to add new colleges or courses in Round 2 or 3. You can only reorder or delete them. If you skip adding a college now, you permanently lose the chance to opt for it later.
Entering Unwanted Choices: Never enter a college or branch you have absolutely no intention of joining. If you place a low-tier college at a high priority out of fear, the system will award it to you, and you will instantly lose your chance at every single college listed below it.
Limiting Your Options: Submitting a short list of only 10 or 15 choices is highly vulnerable. If unexpected cutoff variations happen this year, you risk finishing the round without any seat allotment.
Ignoring College Codes: Many colleges have similar names but are located in entirely different cities, or have different fee structures (Government, Private Aided, Private Unaided). Triple-check the exact KEA college codes to avoid a costly mix-up.
Forgetting to Save: The KEA portal is secure but can time out. Always click "Save & Submit" every couple of minutes while entering options, and avoid modifying your primary rankings in the final hours of the June 30th deadline when server bottlenecks are common.
