NOTIFICATION

An analysis of the result of COMEDK Under Graduate Entrance test held

on 10th of May 2015.

As against 70,968 candidates who have applied seeking Medical UG seats, 57,885 candidates had written the test; similarly, as against 51,221 candidates applied for Engineering UG courses, 43,981 candidates wrote the test on 10th May 2015. On the same evening, Provisional Answer Keys were published and clarifications sought from the candidates; accordingly, as many as 47 candidates sought certain clarifications. Taking into consideration the advice of the Expert Committee, which went into these clarifications, a set of Final Answer Keys was published on 25th May 2015 and subsequently the scores of the candidates were published on 30th May 2015; as announced earlier, COMEDK has today made available the ranks of the candidates who have secured qualifying marks prescribed by MCI/DCI/AICTE and as such eligible to participate in the COMEDK Counseling process later. The candidates can access their Ranks through their ‘Applicant log in’ ID.

2) As has been the practice, an analysis of COMEDK Ranks has been made and it brings out certain interesting features which are as under:

Medical/Dental

a)    Of those who have taken the test seeking admission to around 750

MBBS and an equal number of BDS seats available in 14 Medical and

24 Dental colleges in Karnataka, 27,395 candidates (47%) have become eligible to participate in the seat selection process of COMEDK. Of these, 7,450 (27%) are from Karnataka and 2,747 (10%) are from Bangalore city.

b)   Of the possible maximum of 180 marks, the actual percentage range of qualifying marks secured by the candidates for Medical / Dental admissions varies from 96% to 50%, the latter being the minimum required as per MCI/DCI prescriptions. As many as little less than

1,800 candidates have secured 80% and above in the Medical UGET and similarly another 2,100 candidates have secured percentage range of 75% to 80% in the written test. In other words, around 3,900 candidates have secured in all more than 75% of marks in the entrance test and of whom 460 (12%) candidates are from Karnataka.

c)    14 rank holders out of the first 100 and 115 out of the first 1000 rank holders are from Karnataka and the rest are from other States.

d)   The highest marks secured by a candidate are 173 out of 180 and the said candidate is a resident of Bangalore and as many as 8 Karnataka candidates have secured 165 and above marks in the entrance test.

Engineering

a)    Of the 43,981 candidates who wrote the Engineering Entrance Test, 21,300 candidates (48%) are from Karnataka. The highest marks secured by a candidate are 167 out of 180 and the candidate is a resident of Bangalore. Of the first 10 rank holders, 7 are from Karnataka; likewise, of the first 100 ranks 76 and of the first 1000 ranks 587 are from the State. It is interesting that out of 21,300

Karnataka candidates who have become eligible to participate in the

Engineering seat selection process of COMEDK, as many as 9,600 (45%) candidates are from Bangalore Urban District only.

b)   The actual percentage range of marks secured by the candidates in the entrance test varies from little more than 90% to 45%, the latter being the percentage score required in the plus two examinations.

However, only 45 candidates have secured more than 80% in the
Entrance test and another 120 candidates have secured marks range of 75% – 80%.

c)    The focus of candidates in the scheme of entrance test thus appears to be more inclined to Medicine rather than Engineering courses.

Similarly, the students hailing from Karnataka State appear to be more inclined to pursue Engineering education.
